With a victory on Sunday, the Green Bay Packers will finish with their best home record in five years.

Matt LaFleur deserves credit for many things in his first season as head coach. One of them is restoring the Packers‘ dominance at Lambeau Field.

If the Packers defeat the Chicago Bears on Sunday, they’ll finish the season with a near-perfect 7-1 record at home, with their only loss coming to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.

Not since 2014, when the Packers went a flawless 8-0 at home, have the Packers finished with such a strong record at Lambeau Field. Half a decade ago, Green Bay went undefeated at home, split its road games and secured the No. 2 seed with a 12-4 record.

LaFleur’s team won’t be able to completely mirror that season as they’ve lost one at home already, but they have the opportunity to beat that year’s 4-4 road record. Green Bay is 4-2 away from Lambeau with two to play.

A victory this weekend would also complete a sweep of their NFC North rivals at Lambeau Field, which would be the first time since 2016. Oddly enough, back in 2015, the Packers lost to each of their divisional opponents at home but beat them all on the road.

Being dominant at home and achieving around .500 on the road is often a recipe for success in the regular season. That’s what Green Bay has been able to achieve so far this season, and it is on course for around 12 victories, which would be enough for the NFC North title and potentially even a first-round bye in the playoffs.

A win over the Bears would also put the Packers just one win away from winning the division with two games to play against the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions. There’s a lot to play for this weekend. And for the Bears, this is their Super Bowl. It’s must-win.

It’s hard to believe Green Bay will play its final regular-season home game of the year on Sunday, but it has the chance to cap off an excellent season at Lambeau Field.
