Five players the Green Bay Packers should re-sign in the near future.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst did an outstanding job of adding talent at positions of need in the offseason. Za’Darius and Preston Smith were home-run hits in free agency, and Adrian Amos was another smart addition. Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage have shown potential in their rookie seasons, while Elgton Jenkins looks to be one of the picks of the entire draft.

The next challenge will be continuing to build the roster while also re-signing key players before they hit free agency. Achieving that while maintaining a healthy salary cap is a challenge every general manager faces each offseason, and it’s not an easy task.

One look ahead to free agency in both 2020 and 2021 and the job Gutekunst faces looks all the more daunting. A number of important players on the roster are in either the final season or final two years of their current contracts.

One strategy Gutekunst can take is to attempt to re-sign some of those players in the near future and not leave it right up until free agency, where the value of the contracts could rise up significantly.

With that in mind, here are five players Gutekunst should look to re-sign in the near future. Some will become free agents in the spring, others in 2021.
