Mason Crosby

It’s hard to think of a reason why Mason Crosby isn’t a Pro Bowler for the first time. It can’t have anything to do with accuracy. No kicker in the NFC can boast a better record than Crosby’s 94 percent field goal conversion this season. He’s only missed a single kick all year.

Two players in the NFL have a better field goal percentage than Crosby: Jacksonville’s Josh Lambo (97 percent) and Baltimore’s Justin Tucker (96 percent). However, that’s just field goals. Lambo has a 94 percent conversion on extra-point tries, Tucker 96 percent. Crosby hasn’t missed a single extra-point this season.

Crosby is a first-alternate with New Orleans’ Will Lutz selected for the NFC team.

Take nothing away from Lutz. He’s having an outstanding season for the Saints. No kicker has made more field goals than Lutz this season, and he also made a kick of 58 yards. However, he’s missed four field goals and has a conversion of 89 percent, and he’s also missed an extra-point.

Yes, Lutz has attempted more kicks than Crosby, but he also has the benefit of playing home games in a dome. The Packers have played indoors only once this season and Crosby has remained just as accurate in snowy, frozen conditions.
