The Green Bay Packers can finish 6-2 on the road this season, their best record in eight years.

Winning on the road hasn’t come easy for the Green Bay Packers in recent years. But with a victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, they’ll finish with a winning record away from Lambeau Field for the first time since 2015, and their best road record since 2011.

Matt LaFleur’s team has completely flipped things around from last season. In 2018, the Packers couldn’t find a way to win on the road, losing each game until their final trip of the season when they were already eliminated from playoff contention. A 44-38 overtime victory over the New York Jets was their only road victory in a disappointing season.

This year has been different. While two of their worst performances of the year have been on the road — against the Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers — they’ve won their other five and can make it six on Sunday.

Green Bay’s most impressive win of the season came last Monday night at Minnesota. Despite turning the ball over three times and trailing by a point at the half, it was clear the Packers were the better team. And they showed that in the second half, eventually winning 23-10 to clinch the NFC North title.

There’s so much on the line this weekend against Detroit. By winning, Green Bay can secure its best overall record and best road record since 2011, sweep the NFC North, clinch a first-round bye and potentially even secure the top seed. A loss and they’ll likely be hosting the Vikings next weekend in the wild-card round.

The Packers struggled to win on the road last season. This year, they’ve been far more successful on their travels and can finish with their best road record in almost a decade with victory in Week 17.
