Packers vs. Seahawks: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Snow could hit Lambeau Field ahead of the Green Bay Packers’ divisional-round game against the Seattle Seahawks, and this would be good news for the home team.

Aaron Rodgers has often said that the colder the weather, the better. These are the conditions the Packers are used to playing in, and that much harder for road teams to experience.

According to Chad Roethlisberger of WFRV Local 5, there could be heavy snow in Green Bay on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

And that’s good news for the Packers.

This is what home-field advantage is all about. The advantage of hosting a playoff game isn’t just to play in front of your own fans or to not have to travel, but also to play in a familiar environment. Playing outdoors in frozen conditions is familiar for the Packers.

However, outside of the snow having an impact on the game, the overall temperature might not be as low as it can be this time of year. According to NFLWeather.com, it’s expected to be 21 degrees on Sunday.

If snow is an issue during the game, throwing the football could become harder. Route-running won’t be as easy if the surface is slippery, which could lead to some timing issues for quarterbacks and wide receivers. Being able to hit top speed might also be harder, which could actually help the Packers when facing wide receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf.

Running the football will be key for both teams. Both the Packers and Seahawks have been able to run the ball well this season but struggled to stop it often.

Seattle ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing offense. However, it has since lost its top three running backs, and the combination of Marshawn Lynch and Travis Homer hasn’t been as effective. Green Bay, led by superstar running back Aaron Jones, will look to take advantage of the No. 22 run defense.

Wintery weather and tough conditions could have an impact on this game, but it’s nothing the Packers aren’t used to and something that can be to their advantage. This is what playoff football at Lambeau is all about.
