Packers: Four bold predictions vs. 49ers in NFC Championship Game
Adams catches two touchdowns
The 49ers defense ranked first in the league against the pass, highlighting their dominance on that side of the ball. San Francisco’s dominant pass rush forces quarterbacks to hurry and the defense finished the regular season with 48 sacks. The secondary is excellent, too, led by All-Pro Richard Sherman, who knows what it’s like to play in big games against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
Yet, despite all of the 49ers’ impressive statistics on defense, they are far from unbeatable through the air.
On many occasions this season when they’ve faced elite wide receivers, they’ve given up a lot of yards.
Julio Jones had 134 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Thomas put up 134 yards with one touchdown. Robert Woods and Tyler Higbee both had over 100 yards in Week 16, combining for 221 on 17 catches. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett combined for 12 receptions, 132 yards and two touchdowns in the regular-season finale.
Davante Adams didn’t have a great performance the last time against the Niners, but he was still below 100 percent dealing with a toe injury that had limited him at practice. Now fully healthy, Adams has four touchdowns in his past four games and is averaging 118 yards per game in that stretch.
Sherman likely won’t shadow Adams in this game and will stick to his side of the field. I predict Adams will have the same success many other elite receivers have had this season.
