Packers: Top three performers from NFC Championship loss
By Jesse Fry
3. Allen Lazard
In key moments, there seemed to one person Aaron Rodgers kept looking for when he couldn’t get to Davante Adams: Allen Lazard.
Lazard’s numbers weren’t great; he only had three catches for 36 yards. But all of his catches were for first downs including a fourth-down reception to keep a Packers scoring drive alive.
On the next play, Rodgers found Jimmy Graham for 43 yards, setting up a one-yard touchdown run for Aaron Jones.
The Packers were short a few playmakers this year on offense. But Lazard was one who kept coming through in the clutch and has enough talent and skill to build on heading into next year.
I’m certain there will be an overhaul of offensive skill positions next year. Lazard has shown enough to ensure a place on the team regardless of what happens. He has developed a good rapport with Rodgers and with another offseason to develop, can become a playmaker for the Packers.
In the end, there is only one team that will accomplish their ultimate goal. It won’t be Green Bay this year. Despite not looking the prettiest on offense this year, the Packers had one heck of a season and accomplished more than most thought they could.
The team will now begin their offseason two weeks sooner than they had hoped. With what should be considered a successful season, the team’s lasting image is one of a team getting dominated in their final game.
There’s going to be a lot of tough decisions to be made this offseason and there are sure to be changes. But, the Packers should feel good about their season regardless of how it ended.
