NFL Mocks have the Green Bay Packers going wide receiver in the first round.

It’s a historically deep class at wide receiver in this year’s draft, which is great news for the Green Bay Packers, a team in desperate need of adding more pass catchers. GM Brian Gutekunst could have the option to pass on the receivers in the first round given the depth in the class, but he will also have the opportunity to double down at the position.

Should the Packers decide to address the position with the 30th overall selection in April, one option could be Penn State’s KJ Hamler.

Hamler is the Packers’ choice in the latest NFL Mocks first-round mock draft by Dan Schmelzer.

It became obvious early on this season that the Packers needed help at wide receiver. Davante Adams is the only consistent playmaker at the position, although Allen Lazard did contribute with some big performances as the number two.

GM Brian Gutekunst said in his press conference on Friday that he was interested in adding a player on offense at a skill position ahead of the trade deadline during the season, but a deal couldn’t be agreed. He clearly agrees that help is needed on offense, and now he gets an opportunity to provide that in the offseason.

Hamler could be a first-round choice and is one of the top receivers in a deep class at the position. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com currently has Hamler ranked as the 41st best overall player in the class.

In the mock draft, Schmelzer notes that Hamler is an excellent deep threat and would bring speed to the Packers offense. That’s exactly what Matt LaFleur needs for his offense to take the next step.

Adding talent to the receiving corps is a must this offseason. In the first round, Hamler could be a great choice for the Packers.
