Bucky Brooks of NFL.com thinks the Packers will add a wide receiver in the first round of the draft.

A focus on defense in the early rounds of the draft over the past decade is beginning to have a negative impact on the Green Bay Packers offense.

It’s about time they spent more resources on adding talent on this side of the ball. The Packers’ Super Bowl hopes still rest on Aaron Rodgers, and general manager Brian Gutekunst needs to give him a stronger supporting cast in 2020.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com agrees, and he has the Packers going receiver in the first round of his latest mock draft, selecting Jalen Reagor out of TCU. He would be Green Bay’s first offensive player selected on Day 1 of the draft since offensive tackle Derek Sherrod in 2011.

Reagor would add speed to Green Bay’s offense. He’s an excellent deep threat and could find immediate success in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Outside of Davante Adams, the Packers offense lacks playmakers. They need a receiver who can consistently get open deep down the field. Reagor can do that and forces defenses to respect his speed.

The Packers hoped Marquez Valdes-Scantling would be that player in 2019, but he was inconsistent and didn’t make an impact in the second half of the season. MVS still has time to develop and could take a big jump in Year 3 just as Adams did, but in the meantime, Gutekunst should look to add more speed on both sides of the ball.

Over the past two seasons at TCU, Reagor caught 115 passes for 1,672 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Green Bay could go in a number of directions at the wide receiver position given how deep the class is. I think they should draft at least two receivers and potentially one in the first round. Even then, it’s tough to predict which receiver the Packers would go for given the depth at the position.

But Reagor would be a great choice, and he’d add much-needed speed to the offense.
