The Green Bay Packers come in at No. 5 in the final NFL power rankings of the 2019 season.

Following the conclusion of the 2019 NFL season and an exciting Super Bowl which saw the Kansas City Chiefs come out on top, Dan Hanzus of NFL.com has released his final power rankings of the season.

And overall, Green Bay Packers fans can’t be too disappointed with the team coming in at No. 5 in the rankings.

Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers make up the top-two positions in the power rankings. Also ahead of the Packers are the Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints.

The Ravens, despite their surprise divisional-round exit to the Tennessee Titans, finished the regular season with an NFL-best 14-2 record with second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson being named league MVP. The Ravens will likely be contenders for many years in the NFC.

It’s more surprising to see the Saints a position higher. While the Packers’ regular-season record was equal to the Saints’ at 13-3, Green Bay earned a first-round bye due to a tiebreaker. Following that, the Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round to advance to within a game of the Super Bowl. The Saints didn’t even reach the divisional round after losing to the Minnesota Vikings at home.

Then there are questions at quarterback. Will Drew Brees return in 2020? If so, at 41 years old, can he lead another strong season for the Saints’ offense?

The Packers certainly have their own questions to answer. The offense was inconsistent and needs reinforcements. But the only questions at QB are to do with Aaron Rodgers‘ eventual successor or backup for 2020, not whether he’ll even play next season.

Either way, Green Bay’s ranking suggests this is a team in position to contend in the NFC next season. Brian Gutekunst now needs to put together another strong offseason, addressing the biggest weaknesses on the roster and giving Rodgers more help. If this goal is achieved, the Packers will have the roster ready to compete in 2020.
