Grading Packers position groups ahead of free agency
Quarterbacks: A
Aaron Rodgers didn’t play at an MVP level consistently in 2019 but he’s still one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Rodgers is still a difference-maker for the Packers offense. When he’s at his best, the Packers offense is difficult to stop, as we saw this past season. We got to see a couple of vintage Rodgers performances, most notably against the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.
As long as Rodgers is on the field, the Packers are set at QB. There is some uncertainty at the backup spot this offseason. Will the Packers continue with Tim Boyle, go with Manny Wilkins, or bring in another quarterback to be the No. 2 behind Rodgers?
Running backs: B
Aaron Jones‘ 23-touchdown season launched him into the top tier at the position in the NFL. He’s the Packers’ featured back and one of the best in the league.
Jamaal Williams is a solid player who can be effective on all three downs. However, not including Jones, this isn’t the strongest backfield and depth is an issue. Rookie Dexter Williams couldn’t get on the field in 2019.
The Packers will either need to bank on Dexter Williams taking a big step in his second year or add more depth to the running back position this offseason.
