Two Packers make NFL.com Top 101 free agents rankings

Two Green Bay Packers are among the Top 101 soon-to-be free agents in the NFL.

Gregg Rosenthal and Chris Wesseling of NFL.com have ranked the top 101 free agents of the offseason, and two Green Bay Packers make the list.

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is ranked 42nd, while inside linebacker Blake Martinez is 65th.

You don’t want too many of your players on this list because it means you either need to pay a lot of money or risk losing key players. Take the Dallas Cowboys, for example. They face a big headache in the coming weeks as they try to figure out a way to keep both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper, who are both inside the top three of the rankings. In total, they have three free agents inside the top 10.

The Packers’ toughest decision is with Bulaga, who is still a reliable right tackle. Without him, Green Bay would either need to sign another free agent, switch a player to right tackle (Billy Turner from right guard would be an option), or hope a rookie can come in and start immediately.

The decision with Martinez should be a little simpler. He’s a solid player but he will receive interest from other teams and his price tag could be too high for the Packers. In that case, they should walk away.

A number of former Packers also make the list, including Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Damarious Randall and Randall Cobb. It’s unlikely any of those players will return to Green Bay this offseason.

The Packers won’t have the same cap resources as last year but they will have room to make some moves. Despite only having just under $24 million, according to Over The Cap, the Packers do have some flexibility to create room with roster moves.

The good news is that by taking one look at NFL.com’s top 101 rankings, it’s clear there’s a lot of talent in this year’s free agency class.
