Packers mock draft and free agency: Predicting the 2020 offseason

Mock drafts are a fun exercise this time of year, but we’ve gone a step further here. A three-round mock draft is included, but before then we’ll address free agency and roster moves made to free up more cap room.

General manager Brian Gutekunst has a lot to think about over the next few weeks. Who will be re-signed? Which free agents will he target? And how can he, along with Russ Ball, make it all work to maintain a healthy salary cap? It’s not an easy task, especially considering that this offseason could make or break the Green Bay Packers‘ Super Bowl hopes in 2020.

According to Over The Cap, the Packers have the ninth-lowest amount of money in cap room available in the NFL. The number is currently at $20.46 million. Gutekunst said we shouldn’t expect the same approach to free agency as a year ago, but the Packers will still be active. They’ll likely need to create some more cap room prior to free agency to get everything done.

So that’s where we’ll start. Before we move onto free agency, the number one task of the offseason is to create some more cap room. And there are a few moves the Packers can make.
