Tramon Williams

Bringing back Tramon Williams two years ago was a great decision by Brian Gutekunst, but one that doesn’t get talked about enough. Williams has been a consistent part of Green Bay’s secondary since returning and had another excellent season in 2019.

Since re-signing with the Packers in 2018, Williams hasn’t missed a game. In those two seasons, he had 10 pass defenses, two interceptions, and he forced one fumble and recovered three. As a result of Williams’ impressive season, he was sixth in Pro Football Focus’ top 25 cornerbacks rankings for 2019.

Williams rarely misses games and continues to play at a high level even this late into his career. But the Packers now have a tough decision to make. Coincidentally, Williams turns 37 years old on the same day that teams can begin negotiating with free agents from other teams, March 16.

It’s now a question of if Gutekunst believes Williams can continue to play at the same level for another season, or whether they are better off going with either a player currently on the roster such as Chandon Sullivan, or a new addition in the offseason.

I could see this going either way. But the Packers haven’t re-signed him yet, which makes me wonder whether they’ve made the decision to move on.

Prediction: Walks
