Marcedes Lewis

This could go either way. Marcedes Lewis adds value to Matt LaFleur’s offense, there’s no doubt about that. But whether he’s in the team’s plans for 2020 remains to be seen.

Lewis’ snap counts increased this past season, with him on the field for 45 percent of the Packers’ offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.

One thing to consider is whether the Packers will sign a free agent tight end, Austin Hooper a possible candidate. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported the Packers are interested in signing Hooper. Demovsky added that the Packers are “expected to release” Jimmy Graham, which would perhaps open the door to sign another TE. While Graham remains under contract currently, releasing him would free up $8 million in cap room, according to Spotrac.

If they were to sign Hooper but release Graham, it wouldn’t mean they couldn’t also bring back Lewis.

Lewis is an excellent blocker and can also make plays as a receiver. He can likely be re-signed on an affordable deal and his experience is valuable.

Two weeks away from free agency, my guess is that the Packers will add a free agent tight end like Hooper, give more snaps to Jace Sternberger and also re-sign Lewis.

Prediction: Re-signs
