Packers: Three players to avoid signing in free agency
Ahead of free agency, here are three players the Green Bay Packers should avoid signing.
The first step towards retooling the Green Bay Packers‘ roster towards a Super Bowl push in 2020 begins next week with the start of free agency. Much of the focus in the coming days will be on moves the Packers should make to upgrade positions of need, but we’re also going to consider a few moves they should avoid.
Free agency doesn’t officially begin until next Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT, which is when the new league year begins. However, free agency effectively begins two days earlier on Monday in what is informally known as the “legal tampering” window. From then on, teams will be able to begin negotiations with unrestricted free agents. Deals will then be made official on Wednesday.
With needs at wide receiver, inside linebacker, offensive and defensive tackle, along with many others, the Packers should be active in free agency again this year. After releasing Jimmy Graham on Thursday, the team has an extra $8 million in cap room to work with.
A week from now, the Packers may have already made a couple of signings that we’ll be able to discuss and analyze. But here are three moves GM Brian Gutekunst should avoid once free agency begins next week.
