Another Green Bay Packers free agent is staying in the NFC North.

After Geronimo Allison‘s disappointing 2019 season, it never seemed likely he’d be re-signed.

That’s now been confirmed, although Allison will be remaining in the NFC North. The Detroit Lions announced via Twitter that they have agreed to terms with Allison.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it’s a one-year deal worth $910,000. That’s a low-risk deal for the Lions, but it also shows the Packers weren’t willing to bring him back.

Allison entered last season as the Packers‘ number two receiver but he finished the year with only 287 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a career-low 8.4 yards per reception. He fell down the depth chart following the emergence of Allen Lazard.

Allison entered the year with reasonably high expectations after making an impressive start to the 2018 season. In five games before suffering a season-ending injury, he had put up 303 receiving yards and two touchdowns, a career-best. But he was unable to beat those numbers in 2019 despite being active in all 16 games for the first time in his career.

Wide receiver has been considered one of the Packers’ priorities this offseason and the signing of Devin Funchess all but guaranteed Allison wouldn’t be returning to Green Bay in 2020.

Allison will have competition for snaps in the Lions offense that features wide receivers Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola. Lions head coach Matt Patricia will be hoping Allison can return to form in 2020 and offer some valuable depth as another target for Matthew Stafford.

Two members of the Packers offense from 2019 will now be playing against them twice a season. Along with Allison signing with the Lions, tight end Jimmy Graham signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason.

Do you think the Packers should’ve re-signed Allison or did they make the right call?
