Packers wide receiver depth chart after Devin Funchess signs
A closer look at the Green Bay Packers’ potential depth chart following the offseason moves so far.
Changes were to be expected at the wide receiver position this offseason. So far, the Packers have signed Devin Funchess and moved on from Geronimo Allison, who has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions.
More moves will likely be made and the Packers could strengthen the position in the draft, but for now, let’s take a look at how the depth chart could look.
Here’s an idea of how the depth chart could currently stand following the addition of Funchess:
On the roster bubble: Darrius Shepherd, Reggie Begelton, Malik Taylor
Adams is miles ahead of the other receivers on the roster and he will continue to be Aaron Rodgers‘ premier target in 2020.
For now, Lazard slots in the number two role which he won in the second half of the 2019 season. Ideally, he’ll be further down the depth chart when the season begins, but he’s shown he’s a valuable part of this offense and can contribute at key moments.
It’s difficult to know exactly where Funchess should be on the depth chart. If he returns to form, you could make a case for him being the number two ahead of Lazard but, equally, you could also put him further down.
Valdes-Scantling has shown moments of brilliance in his first two seasons, but they were few and far between in 2019. If he can take a step up in year three, MVS could have a bigger role. If not, he’ll continue to lose snaps.
St. Brown is a tough player to predict after injury kept him out of the entire 2019 season. Again, he showed moments of potential in his rookie season. He’ll likely be a role player to begin with but could increase his role if he shows improvements from his first year.
Kumerow will need a strong summer to make the roster. The expectation should be that the Packers will continue to add to the wide receiver room in next month’s draft, possibly more than once.
