2. Draft a defensive lineman early

Green Bay’s run defense was a mess in 2019. So far this offseason, what has the team done to solve that?

They’ve signed linebacker Christian Kirksey to replace last year’s starter Blake Martinez, which could be an upgrade if the former Cleveland Brown can stay healthy.

But that’s it. A lot more work needs to be done if the Packers are to have more success stopping opposing rushing attacks, something they proved unable to do in the NFC Championship Game.

Adding another inside linebacker in the draft would be a smart move. Relying on Kirksey to stay healthy would be a risk after he missed 23 games over the past two seasons.

But another position that needs to be addressed early is defensive tackle. Having an excellent starting linebacker helps against the run, but the work begins up front along the defensive line. Kenny Clark was a Pro Bowler last season and will likely receive a new contract in the near future, but he can’t do it alone.

Handing Dean Lowry a long-term extension a year ago looks to have been a questionable decision, while Montravius Adams has disappointed.

This is a position the Packers need to improve in the draft, and they’ll likely need to do so in the early rounds.
