Round 2 (33): Patrick Queen, LB, LSU

After considering trading up for one of the best receivers in the class, I instead opted to move down three positions in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals receive three picks compared to the Packers’ two, Green Bay jumps from the bottom of the third round to the top while only moving down three positions from No. 30 overall to No. 33.

And, to my surprise, LSU’s Patrick Queen was still on the board. Despite already signing Christian Kirksey in free agency, inside linebacker remains a need entering the draft. But with Queen added with the first pick on Day 2, the middle of the Packers’ defense is significantly improved.

This is excellent value for the Packers. NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah has Queen at No. 15 in his top-50 rankings of this year’s draft class, writing that “Queen is a high-tempo playmaker at the second level and should impact all three downs”.

The Packers have two stars on the edge with Za’Darius and Preston Smith. For years they’ve lacked a difference-maker in the middle of the defense. Queen could change that.

Not only did Green Bay add one of the best defensive players in the class at a position of need, but they also brought back another top-65 pick.
