Packers have reportedly had virtual meeting with Patrick Queen
The Green Bay Packers have reportedly had a virtual pre-draft meeting with Patrick Queen.
Patrick Queen should be considered one of the best draft prospects for the Green Bay Packers who could realistically fall to No. 30 overall.
And it seems the Packers could have interest in drafting the LSU linebacker. According to Jordan Reid of The Draft Network, the Packers have had a meeting with Queen virtually.
Understandably so. Queen is one of the best inside linebackers in this year’s draft class and he could be the player the Packers defense has desperately needed for many years. Far too long, they have failed to address the middle of the defense with an early-round pick. But if they change that this year by drafting Queen, it could pay off in a big way.
Queen could be a three-down player in Mike Pettine’s defense. He would help Green Bay’s struggling run defense while also being able to cover receivers in the middle of the field.
Green Bay did sign free-agent Christian Kirksey last month, but general manager Brian Gutekunst has doubled-down at positions of need in the past. After turning two of the team’s biggest needs last season at edge rusher and safety into strengths, he could aim to do the same by doubling-down at inside linebacker.
A combination of Queen and Kirksey could be a big upgrade on Blake Martinez and B.J. Goodson, who both signed elsewhere in free agency.
But it’s only a virtual pre-draft visit. This doesn’t necessarily mean Queen is high on the Packers’ draft board. Another possibility is that he could be gone before the Packers even hit the clock for the first time.
But if Queen did fall to No. 30 and the Packers selected him first, they would have fixed their need at inside linebacker. They could then address other needs including wide receiver and defensive tackle later in the draft.
