Four moves the Packers need to make following the 2020 NFL Draft
1. Trade for a wide receiver
Another option for the Packers would be to pick up the phone and see which wide receivers could be available around the league.
They missed the chance to land DeAndre Hopkins, who the Arizona Cardinals got for a bargain in a trade from the Houston Texans earlier this offseason. While the Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors were shut down by the Cleveland Browns, the Packers should still pick up the phone.
Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman reported earlier this month that sources he’s spoken to think “it’s only a matter of time before” before the Browns trade Beckham.
Making a trade with the Browns for Beckham wouldn’t be easy, but if a deal could be agreed, the Packers would be getting a star wide receiver to pair with Davante Adams. Even if Matt LaFleur’s offense is to run the ball more often in 2020, imagine having OBJ and Adams to throw to off of play-action. It would be an unfair combination for defenses to deal with. And the Packers, a team in win-now mode, should be willing to make that kind of bold move if the opportunity presents itself.
Green Bay didn’t sign one of the top free-agent receivers and then, unbelievably, didn’t make the most of an all-time great draft class. The opportunity to draft multiple receivers was there but they failed to do so. Now they need to find other ways to improve the position. One of the only remaining options is via a trade.
