Defensive linemen (5)

Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Treyvon Hester, Kingsley Keke, Tyler Lancaster

After being humiliated by the 49ers’ running game in the NFC Championship loss back in January, it’s surprising the Packers haven’t been more active trying to strengthen the defensive line.

Kenny Clark is a Pro Bowler and the key player along the line, but there are questions about the depth. The Packers did get Clark some help earlier this week by signing Treyvon Hester, who tipped the “double doink” kick which saw the Bears crash out of the playoffs two years ago.

Dean Lowry hasn’t yet lived up to his new contract, while it’s too early to judge Kingsley Keke after just one season. The Packers will be hoping Keke can make a second-year jump in 2020.

I’d still like to see the Packers add another veteran defensive tackle like Damon Harrison, who would help strengthen the run defense. Another option would be to bring back Mike Daniels, who remains a free agent after spending one year with the Lions.

It looks like Brian Gutekunst has more confidence in the defensive line than many of us fans do. Time will tell whether they add more talent over the summer or whether this current group can help the Packers improve against the run.
