Packers 2020 regular season schedule to be released next week
The 2020 NFL schedule will be released next week.
As things stand, the 2020 NFL season is scheduled to go ahead on time. Next week, we’ll find out the Green Bay Packers‘ schedule in full for the new season.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, league spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed the 2020 schedule will be released late next week. Fowler noted that the season opener will be held on September 10 with the Super Bowl on February 7.
Whether the season can indeed begin on time, and with fans in stadiums, is too difficult to say right now. But the NFL is planning for the season to go ahead as planned. However, Fowler added that contingency plans will be in place such as possibly delaying the start of the season until mid-October.
While the new collective bargaining agreement will mean 17-game regular-season schedules in the future, that won’t be taking place this season. One change that will begin is the expanded playoffs, with an additional team making the postseason from each conference.
On paper, this season’s schedule looks to be a challenging one for the Packers.
Green Bay’s road schedule includes games against four playoff teams from 2019. That includes the San Francisco 49ers, a team the Packers proved to be a million miles behind last season. They will also face the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans on the road.
One of the most interesting matchups of the season will be on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Packers defense will need to be ready for a tough challenge stopping Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Rob Gronkowski. We’ll get to see a rare head-to-head showdown between Aaron Rodgers and Brady.
It could be a very different season than usual because of the coronavirus pandemic but, for now, the NFL is planning for it to go ahead on time. Next week, we’ll find out the Packers’ schedule in full.
