The Packers are down to ninth in the latest NFL Spin Zone power rankings.

It’s fair to say the Green Bay Packers‘ 2020 draft class didn’t go down too well with fans and analysts alike.

FanSided handed them an F, while NFL.com gave them the worst grade in the league. It sure was a head-scratching draft by the Packers, but it’s too early to tell whether they made a big mistake.

Of course, the class will be judged on Jordan Love’s career in Green Bay. If he becomes a star, the rest of the class won’t matter. If he fails, the other picks best be good ones.

More than anything, it wasn’t the draft class we all expected to see. The Packers failed to address many of their most important areas of need, mostly wide receiver but also defensive tackle. Needs such as inside linebacker and offensive tackle were addressed later than expected. I can’t imagine there was one mock draft written with Green Bay going quarterback, running back then H-back in the first three rounds.

As a result, the Packers have fallen three positions in the NFL Spin Zone post-draft power rankings. They’re down to ninth. That’s still a respectable position but for the NFC runners-up, that’s quite a significant drop.

Green Bay’s ground game should be improved and the backup quarterback situation is better than it has been in some time. But has the team actually got much better from last season? A case can be made that they’ve stayed in the same position or even got worse.

But the offseason is far from over. It’s possible a few of the rookie selections will prove to be great picks right away like Darnell Savage and Elgton Jenkins did last season. Maybe some second-year players like Rashan Gary and Jace Sternberger will step up.

And it’s also possible the Packers will sign or trade for a wide receiver. There’s still time to strengthen the roster.

But the power rankings are fair. The Packers are playoff contenders and likely the best team in the NFC North, but they haven’t gone all-in for 2020 as many expected.
