Packers offense can be one of the league’s best in 2020
The Green Bay Packers might have failed to properly address the wide receiver position this offseason (so far), but they still have one of the best offenses in the league entering the 2020 season.
NFL.com’s Chris Wesseling ranked the top 10 offenses in the league, with the Packers coming in at No. 9.
While this offense might be a way off the Kansas City Chiefs’, led by Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, or the Baltimore Ravens’, with league MVP Lamar Jackson, there are definitely reasons to be positive about the Packers offense.
While the receiving depth is concerning and there are questions along the right side of the offensive line and at tight end, many teams would love to have the offensive talent the Packers do.
Aaron Rodgers is still one of the most accurate and efficient quarterbacks in the league. Jordan Love gives Green Bay a more solid backup situation. Wesseling gave them an “A-” grade for the quarterbacks.
Aaron Jones proved he’s an elite running back last season with 19 all-purpose regular-season touchdowns. With Jamaal Williams and new addition AJ Dillon in the backfield, there’s a lot to love about the ground game.
Three offensive linemen made the top 10 of their respective positions in ESPN’s pass block win rate metric last season. David Bakhtiari and Corey Linsley led the NFL at their respective positions, while rookie Elgton Jenkins was eighth among guards. As a team, the Packers were first in the league for PBWR.
Bakhtiari has been an All-Pro selection four years in a row, while Jenkins was part of the 2019 PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Questions can be asked of the right side of the line, understandably so, but the Packers drafted three offensive linemen this year and still have a strong starting five.
Depth behind Davante Adams might be a concern, but let’s not forget that Adams is one of the best receivers in the game.
Add in that Jace Sternberger is entering his second season, Devin Funchess is an upgrade on Geronimo Allison, and the additions of Dillon and Josiah Deguara will help the ground game improve.
More importantly of all, it’s the second season in Matt LaFleur’s system.
The Packers offense has a lot of potential in 2020.
