Green Bay Packers 2020 opponent preview: Tennessee Titans
The Packers are set to host the Titans in Week 16.
Four years ago, the Tennessee Titans dominated the Green Bay Packers.
Delanie Walker was, unfortunately, motivated by one of our posts here at Lombardi Ave, and went onto catch nine passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
We won’t be making that mistake again.
Last season
Tennessee was one of the biggest surprises of 2019, a team that turned a 9-7 finish into two huge road playoff victories and a trip to the AFC Championship Game.
Powered by Derrick Henry, who averaged 148.7 yards per game in the postseason, the Titans pulled off stunning upsets against the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens before being eliminated a game short of the Super Bowl by the eventual-champion Kansas City Chiefs.
When is the game?
The game is set to take place late in the season in Week 16. It’ll be a primetime game on Sunday Night Football, kicking off at 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday, Dec. 27.
Offseason additions
Tennessee lost star offensive tackle Jack Conklin in free agency, forcing the team to use its first-round pick on Georgia tackle Isaiah Wilson. The Titans will hope Wilson can start early on.
Cornerback Kristian Fulton, selected in the second round, helps strengthen their secondary while running back Darrynton Evans could help give Tennessee the league’s best backfield working alongside Derrick Henry.
Last meeting with the Packers
November 13, 2016: Titans won 47-25 at Nissan Stadium
Player to watch
Derrick Henry: Henry rushed for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He was simply unstoppable at times. A powerful back who is impossible to bring down when he’s at his best, he is the player the Packers should be most concerned about.
Green Bay’s defense struggled to stop the run throughout the 2019 season, ranking 23rd in the NFL. If they can’t stop Henry in this game, the Titans will win. He gives Tennessee its best chance of winning on the road.
