Will Jake Kumerow make the Packers’ roster?

There’s going to be competition at wide receiver this year.

Jake Kumerow struggled last season, but will he make the Green Bay Packers‘ 53-man roster in 2020?

Kumerow has been praised by Aaron Rodgers in the past but he struggled to make much of an impact last season. He could need another strong preseason and training camp to make the roster this year.

2019 stats

Kumerow played in 14 games, starting four. He caught 12 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown.

2019 review

The Packers had high hopes for Kumerow entering the 2019 season. He had impressed over the summer and was coming off an injury-hit 2018 when he only played in five games. But despite playing in almost three times more games last year, he only had four more catches.

Kumerow’s best play was his only touchdown, which came against the Oakland Raiders. Kumerow made a great catch-and-run, managing to stay inbounds down the sideline before getting into the end zone.

But Kumerow didn’t make a big enough impact throughout the season.

Odds of making roster: 50 percent

The fact Green Bay didn’t do much at wide receiver in the offseason helps Kumerow. But there will still be competition. New-signing Devin Funchess will likely make the roster, and Kumerow will also face competition from Marquez Valdes-Scantling, returning Equanimeous St. Brown, and Reggie Begelton.

What to expect in 2020?

Kumerow will need a strong summer to make the roster this year. But that might not be enough. Kumerow has performed well in the preseason and training camp in previous years but hasn’t been able to convert that into regular-season success.

And it didn’t come due to a lack of opportunity. According to Pro Football Reference, between Weeks 3 and 6 last season, Kumerow played over half of the offensive snaps, and he played 88 percent of the snaps in Week 4.

Kumerow needs to play well over the summer or he could miss out on a roster spot.
