Three potential surprise cuts for the Packers in 2020.

Every year as teams begin to trim their rosters, there are surprise cuts around the NFL. And the Green Bay Packers are no different.

Last summer, general manager Brian Gutekunst made the surprising decision to cut Pro Bowl defensive tackle Mike Daniels, who had been one of the most important players on defense for many years. Daniels was entering a contract year and had missed time to injury the season prior, but it was still seen as a head-scratching decision. Daniels would end up playing for the division-rival Detroit Lions last season.

Entering the 2016 season, many wondered whether it would be the final year the Packers’ dominant guard tandem of Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang would be together. Both players were set to become free agents the following spring. Instead, the Packers surprisingly cut Sitton ahead of the 2016 season a year before his deal was up. He’d sign with the rival Chicago Bears.

That’s not to say there will be a surprising move as big as releasing Daniels or Sitton, but it’s possible we could see a surprise cut or two by the Packers as the regular season nears.
