New York Giants: LB Blake Martinez

This selection will probably shock most people. I had to do everything in my power not to take star running back Saquon Barkley with this steal, and there are a few reasons why I think stealing Blake Martinez and bringing him back to Green Bay makes a lot more sense for the Packers. The linebacker unit is depleted, and losing him is the reason why.

I like the addition of Christian Kirksey, but he has injury woes and if he goes down early in the season, the Packers will have to turn to some very inexperienced guys at inside linebacker. Oren Burks, Ty Summers, and Kamal Martin are not guys that have consistently performed in the NFL (especially considering Martin is an incoming rookie out of Minnesota).

While those guys provide depth, the unit is not incredibly talented. Also, the Packers have Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, and A.J. Dillon at running back. The trio is arguably going to be one of the best in football if they all make the roster for the 2020-2021 season.

Bringing Blake back solidifies the middle of the field for Mike Pettine’s 3-4 defense and makes the Packers a better team come January when the postseason rolls around. It’s also a system he is familiar with and will immediately play well in.
