Packers: Top 10 players to watch at training camp in 2020
10. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
The Packers need Marquez Valdes-Scantling to make a difference in 2020.
And he absolutely can. So far, in his first two seasons in the league, MVS has shown he can make game-changing plays and contribute as a deep threat in this offense.
Rewind to Week 1 of last season when his 47-yard reception set up the only touchdown of the entire game, a pass from Aaron Rodgers to Jimmy Graham. Without Valdes-Scantling getting open downfield and making the play, the Graham touchdown may never have happened.
Valdes-Scantling’s name kept coming up throughout the summer as a player to watch in 2019. And he made a good start to the season, beginning in Chicago, and continuing with a 99-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Denver Broncos in Week 3 and his only 100-yard game of the season against the Oakland Raiders.
But his production dropped later in the year, with MVS making only five catches in the final eight games of the season. That’s the big concern.
Valdes-Scantling has shown he can make a difference in the past. Many other great wide receivers have put it all together in their third season. Can MVS do the same? We’ll get an idea of the Packers’ plans for him this season when training camp opens.
