Packers: Top 10 players to watch at training camp in 2020
6. Devin Funchess
Devin Funchess was the Packers’ number one addition at wide receiver this offseason. While he does replace Geronimo Allison, who signed with the Detroit Lions in free agency, he could also take on many of the snaps left behind by Jimmy Graham.
At training camp, we’ll get a better idea of how Funchess fits into the Packers offense. At 6-foot-4, Funchess gives the Packers another big target.
The former Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver missed most of the 2019 season due to injury and slipped under the radar in free agency this past spring. Now the Packers need him to get back to his best in his first season in Green Bay.
Will Funchess be a starter on the outside? Will he have to compete for snaps with Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown?
It’ll also be interesting to see how the arrival of Funchess impacts the rest of the offense. Will the Packers put two tight ends on the field at the same time as Funchess, or will he take on Graham’s role in LaFleur’s offense? Could Funchess line up outside and Davante Adams spend more time in the slot?
How Funchess fits into this offense will be something to watch closely.
