1. Work out long-term deals with David Bakhtiari and Kenny Clark

While adding more talent would help this team in 2020, the Packers also need to ensure they don’t lose left tackle David Bakhtiari or defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the near future. Both players have expiring contracts at the end of the season and will be among the best free agents in the NFL if they aren’t re-signed before then.

Bakhtiari would receive a huge deal as a free agent. He’s one of the best left tackles in the league and has been an All-Pro each season since 2016. Clark has become a superstar defensive tackle and was a Pro Bowler in 2019.

The Packers have a number of talented players set to become free agents next offseason. They can’t re-sign everybody. But while they might end up losing running back Aaron Jones, center Corey Linsley, or cornerback Kevin King, they can’t let Bakhtiari and Clark sign elsewhere. They are simply too important to this team’s success.

There’s still time to work out long-term deals with both Bakhtiari and Clark, but the clock is ticking. The sooner they can agree on extensions, the better. Getting both deals sorted prior to the start of the 2020 season would a best-case scenario and it should be the team’s number one priority.
