Sammy Watkins – WR

The Packers might have failed to address their need at wide receiver this offseason, both with the available free agents and then in a historically strong draft class, but they could have an opportunity to put that right in the next year.

Wide receiver Sammy Watkins re-signed with the Chiefs this offseason but will become a free agent again next spring. Due to the firepower the Chiefs have on offense with star pass catchers Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, Watkins slips under the radar somewhat. But he’s an incredibly talented receiver and a former first-round pick, and a player who could make a huge difference for the Packers.

Watkins has 1,192 yards and six touchdowns over the past two seasons with the Chiefs. He’s played in 24 games in that time.

While Watkins has missed time due to injury in his career, when healthy he’s a difference-maker. And as the number two receiver in the Packers offense next to Davante Adams, he’d have an opportunity to dominate in Green Bay.

The Chiefs might struggle to keep Mahomes’ incredible supporting cast all together beyond the 2020 season, starting with Watkins becoming a free agent next March. If he hits free agency, he’ll draw interest. One of those teams should be the Packers.
