Running backs (5)

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, AJ Dillon, Tyler Ervin, Patrick Taylor

What the Packers do at the running back position will be telling of what their plans will be next offseason. Both Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are entering the final year of their contracts. With the contracts of David Bakhtiari and Kenny Clark looming, cap space will be tight next offseason. If the Packers lose both Jones and Williams, there won’t be a ton of experience coming back.

The Packers brought Tyler Ervin back for another season, but he is their primary kick and punt returner and will make a few plays on offense as a gadget player. AJ Dillon is likely the future of the Packers’ backfield, especially if Williams leaves following this season. Dexter Williams didn’t really impress me last year. When Jamaal Williams was injured vs. Philadelphia, the Packers brought up Tra Carson to back up Jones the next week, rather than depend on Dexter Williams. That’s a big red flag.

A player I like that could sneak onto the roster and be a part of the Packers’ future is undrafted rookie Patrick Taylor. He could provide insurance in the future should the Packers lose their top two guys after this season.
