The Packers are eighth in NFL Spin Zone’s pre-training camp power rankings.

With training camp set to go ahead on time, starting July 28, the preparations are being made for the new season. And potentially a very different one to what we’re used to.

NFL Spin Zone’s Randy Gurzi has put together his pre-training camp power rankings, and the Green Bay Packers are in eighth position.

The defending NFC North champs remain in the same spot they were in the previous rankings.

Packers still team to beat in NFC North

What the power rankings highlight is that the Packers remain the team to beat in the NFC North.

The Minnesota Vikings, who come in at 12th in the rankings, have done a nice job this offseason fixing positions of need and replacing some key players who have left. They are in position to build on last season’s success. While they didn’t win the division, they reached the divisional round of the playoffs after a shock road win over the New Orleans Saints in the wild-card round.

The Chicago Bears, NFC North winners only two years ago, have everything to prove. They are in the bottom half of the power rankings in 18th place. It shows how far they’ve fallen in such a short space of time. But don’t write them off; the Bears have a talented roster and could quickly climb back up the rankings.

The Detroit Lions might have won the NFC North when it comes to the offseason, but the real work starts now. They’ve moved up one position after their offseason moves but remain all the way down in 27th position. They’ve got a mountain to climb to win the division this year considering how tough the competition is.

Will the Packers be contenders or pretenders in the NFC this year? That much we don’t know, but entering the season, they’re the team to beat in the NFC North.
