Jamaal Williams

This one comes down to two things: the Packers’ depth at running back, and also Jamaal Williams‘ contract. Williams will hit free agency next offseason and when you consider how many key players the team will need to attempt to re-sign, there’s a good chance they won’t be able to bring back Williams.

According to Over The Cap, trading Williams would save the Packers $2.13 million in cap room. Similar to trading away Turner, it wouldn’t be a huge cap saving, but it could help free up some room for upcoming contract extensions.

Williams can absolutely play an important role in Matt LaFleur’s offense this season, so the Packers should only agree a trade if the offer is right for them. Williams’ ability in pass-protection and also catching passes out of the backfield makes him valuable to this offense. And given Green Bay’s desire to run the football, having depth at the position is important.

That said, Green Bay did just use a second-round pick on AJ Dillon. You don’t spend a high draft pick on a running back to sit on the bench. He’s going to play and have a significant role. And with Aaron Jones already taking the majority of the carries, where does it leave Williams?
