Tight ends (4) – 20/53

Jace Sternberger, Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, Josiah Deguara

One position that looks set entering training camp is at tight end.

The Packers drafted Josiah Deguara in the third round but expectations shouldn’t be too high for any rookies this season after missing out on practice time over the summer. Especially at the tight end position. It’s a difficult adjustment for rookie tight ends from college to the NFL. But  Deguara’s versatility could help him get on the field this season.

The Packers need Jace Sternberger to make a huge jump in year number two. Sternberger made some plays in the playoffs last season and should become a bigger factor in the passing game with Jimmy Graham now playing for the Chicago Bears. Green Bay will also be hoping for more consistency from Robert Tonyan.

Marcedes Lewis will play a vital role in Matt LaFleur’s offense once again. His blocking ability will be especially important for a Packers offense looking to run the football.

Outside of Lewis, this is an unproven, inexperienced tight end room. That’s why the Packers need a breakout season from Sternberger, their third-round pick in 2019.

With the top four at tight end all but set, Evan Baylis and James Looney will be candidates for the practice squad.
