AFC East

  1. New England Patriots (9-7)*
  2. Buffalo Bills (7-9)
  3. Miami Dolphins (5-11)
  4. New York Jets (3-13)

The New England Patriots might’ve lost Tom Brady this offseason, seemingly opening the door for the other three teams in the AFC East to finally win the division. But I don’t see that happening. With former league-MVP Cam Newton at quarterback, the Patriots will still be the team to beat in the AFC East.

The Patriots have also had eight players opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including key defensive players Dont’a Hightower and Patrick Chung.

New England’s overall record drops to 9-7, but it’s still good enough to win the AFC East for the 12th season in a row.

The Miami Dolphins will be a team to watch over the next few seasons. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa could be a future star, and they had the benefit of picking three times in the first round of April’s draft. But it’s going to take some time for the Dolphins to rebuild. They could become one of the best teams in the AFC East in the near future, but it’ll be another disappointing season in 2020.

The Packers aren’t scheduled to meet any of the AFC East teams until the 2022 season. By then, there could be a new team to beat in the division, but for now, it’s still the Patriots on top.
