10 bold predictions for the Packers training camp 2020
5. Run defense is still an issue
If there’s one area of real concern for the Packers this season, it’s not at wide receiver, but up front on defense. We all saw the NFC Championship Game and the struggles Green Bay had against the run for the majority of the 2019 season, and the team’s response is to hope many of the young players on the roster step up.
It’s possible they will, but enough to fix the run defense? That’s a big ask. Like cornerback, the Packers could bring in a run-stopping defensive lineman during training camp, but until then, the run defense could continue to be a problem.
6. Jordan Love shows potential
If there’s one reason to be disappointed there’s no preseason, it’s because we won’t get to see Jordan Love against another NFL team in a Packers uniform. A real opportunity to assess how close he is to being ready to start in the NFL and where he needs to improve.
But the Packers will get that opportunity each day in practice. While Love could enter the season as the number three QB on the depth chart, which would be a smart decision, there’s a chance we’ll hear about the potential he has shown throughout training camp. About incredible throws on the move, or a pinpoint pass into the end zone. There will be mistakes and areas of his game to improve, but Love’s first training camp will be a good one.
