Packers: Cornerback Stanford Samuels impressing at training camp
Packers cornerback Stanford Samuels has reportedly been impressive so far at training camp.
The Green Bay Packers have a lot of young talent at the cornerback position, leading to competition for roster spots at training camp.
One player who is looking to prove why he should make the Packers’ 53-man roster is Stanford Samuels, who was signed as an undrafted free agent earlier this year.
A couple of months ago, I predicted Samuels will make the Packers’ roster as the sixth cornerback on the depth chart. So far in training camp, it sounds like he’s making a strong case.
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky believes Samuels’ stock is rising at training camp, adding that he had “good sideline coverage” against Davante Adams. Being able to hold your own against the Packers’ star wide receiver is certainly a way to get noticed in practice.
Throughout the week, there have been many tweets similar to this one.
Andy Herman of Cheesehead TV thinks Samuels has been one of the team’s best undrafted free agents so far.
There’s no doubt that Samuels has the potential to make the roster and become a good addition to the secondary. He had eight interceptions in three seasons at Florida State. In his final season, he had seven pass defenses.
It was somewhat of a surprise that he wasn’t drafted this year, and he looks to be showing why a team should’ve been willing to use a pick on him.
The Packers are banking on their young cornerbacks to provide the depth behind starters Kevin King and Jaire Alexander. The competition at training camp has been an interesting one so far. Samuels has competition from Kabion Ento, DaShaun Amos, and Will Sunderland.
But with Samuels making some impressive plays in coverage, he is putting his name right in the mix for a spot on the Packers’ 53-man roster. He could prove to be another good undrafted free agent signing for the Packers.
