Tight ends (4) – 19/53

Robert Tonyan, Jace Sternberger, Marcedes Lewis, Josiah Deguara

The tight ends play an important role in Matt LaFleur’s offense, so it’s no surprise the team has invested a couple of third-round picks at the position over the past two years. But we might not see Jace Sternberger in a significant role early in the season. Andy Herman of 247Sports.com wrote that Sternberger has had a quiet training camp, which isn’t ideal as he was the expected replacement for Jimmy Graham.

Sternberger could eventually increase his role if he can start to make an impact, but a player to watch out for will be Robert Tonyan. Don’t be surprised if he’s the Packers’ starting tight end, at least early in the season.

Marcedes Lewis’ role is pretty clear. His blocking in the run game makes him so important to this offense, but he can also contribute as a receiver.

Josiah Deguara is the X-factor in this group. The rookie tight end will likely be eased in and shouldn’t be asked to do too much right away, but his versatility makes him in an interesting addition to this offense. Can Deguara do something we rarely see at tight end in the NFL and make a big impact as a rookie? He’s a player to watch.
