The Packers got good news about Lucas Patrick’s injury.

The Green Bay Packers‘ performance in the season opener was fun to watch and they pulled off an impressive victory, but not so fun was the injury list.

Offensive linemen Lucas Patrick and Lane Taylor, and defensive tackle Kenny Clark all left the game and didn’t return.

The worry is that Taylor could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury, but the news on Patrick’s injury looks to be more encouraging.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Patrick “got good news on his tests” and “should be probable” for next week’s game against the Detroit Lions.

This would be a huge relief for the Packers. Potentially losing Taylor for the year is bad news, and the Packers were also without Billy Turner in the season opener. With Taylor out, they’ll need Patrick to potentially take on a starting job.

Patrick started Sunday’s game at left guard, with Elgton Jenkins filling in at right tackle while Taylor played at right guard. Injuries to both Patrick and Taylor meant Matt LaFleur had to reshuffle the offensive line with Jenkins moving back to left guard, Rick Wagner playing right tackle, and rookie Jon Runyan Jr. entering the game at right guard.

Another reason why Patrick is so important is his versatility. He can play at guard or center, and some believe he could be the eventual replacement for Corey Linsley at center when he becomes a free agent next offseason.

Patrick has only started seven games for the Packers but he has no shortage of NFL experience having played in 41 games.

We still nervously wait for injury updates about Clark and Taylor, but it’s good to hear that Patrick’s injury isn’t believed to be serious and that he should be available in Week 2.
