Packers: Five standout performances from Week 1 win vs. Vikings
By Jesse Fry
3. Jaire Alexander
Stat line: 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, 1 safety
I felt coming into this game Jaire Alexander would have a good showing. I was wrong — he had a great one.
Yes, he did give up a late score to Adam Thielen, but he was still in great position and was beat by a good pass and catch.
Alexander was the player of the first half. He got the defense to be offensive, putting points on the board off a corner blitz with the Vikings backed up against their own goal line. The Packers had just missed out on points missing a fourth-down conversion.
Alexander more than made up for it with that sack and the Packers kicking a field goal after the safety kick.
Then after Davante Adams’ first touchdown of the day, Alexander made the Vikings pay for being aggressive and trying to get points before the half with an interception on a pass intended for Adam Thielen.
The Packers then cashed in almost immediately with a 45-yard touchdown to Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
I expect big things out of Alexander this year. He has improved each year in the league and I feel this is the season he makes his name known by more than those of us in Packer Nation. He’s off to a good start.
