Packers in top five of FanSided Week 2 power rankings
The Packers are up to fifth in FanSided’s Week 2 power rankings.
The Green Bay Packers made the perfect start to the regular season, defeating the rival-Minnesota Vikings in their own stadium.
The Packers made a statement with their performance, reminding everyone that they are still one of the best teams in the NFC.
Matt Verderame of FanSided has put together his Week 2 NFL power rankings, and the Packers move up into fifth spot after their impressive victory.
As Verderame writes, Aaron Rodgers was simply dominant in the season opener:
"“Aaron Rodgers looks furious, the Packers look very good, and the NFC North looks like a damn tough hill for the other three teams.”"
Absolutely right. Especially the Vikings, who are now a game behind the Packers and have lost a key divisional game. For now, Green Bay owns the head-to-head tiebreaker and also starts the year 1-0 against the NFC North.
Just how impressive was Rodgers last Sunday?
You could make an argument that it was a top-10 performance for Rodgers in his entire career. On the road against a division rival (and Mike Zimmer, who has found success against Rodgers in the past), he completed just under 73 percent of his passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns for a passer rating of 127.5.
Verderame has Green Bay third among NFC teams, which is fair. The New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks were equally as impressive in Week 1 and look to be two of the top contenders in the conference. It’s also no surprise to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drop a couple of spots after their disappointing performance against the Saints.
We’ll learn more about each of these teams in the coming weeks, especially in Week 3 when Green Bay is on the road against New Orleans. Before then, the Packers will look to build on their strong start with another divisional victory over the Detroit Lions, while the Saints visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.
Can the Packers build on their impressive Week 1 victory when they host the Lions?
