The Packers might not come up against Michael Thomas in Week 3.

In less than two weeks, the Green Bay Packers will face arguably the toughest game on their schedule, a road matchup with the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints are strong on both sides of the ball. One of the biggest challenges for the defense up against New Orleans is trying to cover All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas.

However, it’s possible Thomas could be out in Week 3 against the Packers as he suffered a high-ankle injury in New Orleans’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the injury is worse than they initially thought, and Thomas could “miss several weeks”.

Thomas was limited as a result of the injury in Week 1 and only caught three passes for 17 yards.

Clearly, this would have a huge impact on the game. Thomas is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL after setting a league record for the most receptions in a single season in 2019. Defenses had no answer for him.

Even if Thomas is out, the Saints have a ton of talent on offense with quarterback Drew Brees, running back Alvin Kamara, and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, but if the Saints are without Thomas in this game, it could have a huge impact.

With or without Thomas, this will still be one of the toughest games on the schedule for the Packers. The Saints have a balanced roster, and one that is loaded with talent. They’ll be right up there with the top teams in the NFC again this season. They showed just how talented they are with an impressive victory over the Buccaneers last week.

Before then, the Packers will be focusing on staying undefeated when they host the Detroit Lions in their Lambeau Field opener this Sunday afternoon. But with a huge NFC showdown with the Saints coming up in two weeks, Thomas’ injury status will be something to watch.
