2. Packers struggle to stop Adrian Peterson

Running back Adrian Peterson impressed in his Lions debut last week, rushing 14 times for 93 yards. As he played so well, don’t be surprised if the Lions give Peterson more carries this week. That’s not great news for a Packers defense that hasn’t shown many improvements in run defense from last season.

Green Bay gave up 134 yards and two touchdowns on the ground against Minnesota, with the Vikings averaging over six yards per carry. It didn’t matter in the end as the Packers built a big lead and put the game away, but in a closer game, an improved run defense will be needed.

The Packers have struggled against Peterson over the years. He’s rushed for over 2,000 yards in 20 career games against the Packers, including a combined 196 yards and three touchdowns in two games in 2018 and 2019.

Even if Peterson does have a strong performance, Green Bay’s passing offense can put this game beyond Detroit. But if the game is closer than expected, the run defense could be a concern.

The Lions will look to keep the game close and run the ball. After his impressive debut against the Bears, Peterson should be in line for a big role in the Lions offense again this week. Nothing from Week 1 suggests the Packers defense will be up to the challenge.
