3 takeaways from Packers’ Week 2 victory vs. Lions
1. Offense continues to deliver
The Packers offense has been impressive in the opening two weeks of the regular season. They’ve now put up back-to-back 40-point games which, according to NFL Research, makes them only the eighth team in the Super Bowl era to do so in each of their first two games.
Key to Green Bay’s success on offense is that it has found great success both on the ground and through the air. After two games, the Packers have rushed for a total of 417 yards and thrown for 604 yards. They’ve scored an incredible 85 points.
The jump from year one to year two in Matt LaFleur’s system looks very real. Aaron Rodgers is playing some of his best football since his MVP season in 2014. Davante Adams and Aaron Jones have been in midseason form, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling continues to make big plays.
The Packers will need more consistent play from the defense to make a deep playoff run this season, but this offense looks like it can be special after the first two games.
Improvements can still be made, of course. Getting more production from the tight ends should be a priority. But after two weeks, the Packers have been absolutely dominant on offense.
