Packers: Five standout performances from Week 2 win vs. Lions
By Jesse Fry
1. Aaron Jones
Stat line: 18 carries, 168 yards, 2 TDs, 4 catches, 68 yards, 1 TD
Last week, Aaron Rodgers and the passing game took over the game and tore apart a young Vikings secondary.
This week, Aaron Jones and the offensive line ran roughshod over the Lions’ veteran front seven. Jones just could not be stopped; he led the team in both receiving and rushing as he rolled up over 220 yards of total offense to go with three touchdowns.
After a solid if unspectacular showing last week, Jones put the offense on his back on a day when star receiver Davante Adams was in and out of the lineup, first with an ankle injury and then a hamstring issue.
Jones got the scoring started with a touchdown run to make the score 14-10 after the Packers fell behind 14-3. Jones also made a spectacular 30-yard catch in the third quarter.
He found holes and cut-back lanes all day long and dashed off for the longest run in his career with a 75-yard burst in the third quarter, the series before that catch. Jones also didn’t shy away from the dirty work, beautifully picking up the blitzing Darryl Roberts to set up a 41-yard catch to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the fourth quarter.
When it was all said and done, Jones finished the game with the most yards rushing and all-purpose yards in one game.
Jones is showing the Packers that they might be wise to get his extension done sooner rather than later, because if Jones keeps up at this pace, he could be in for a major payday very soon.
