Packers: Five standout performances from Week 2 win vs. Lions
By Jesse Fry
2. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Stat line: 3 catches, 64 yards (long of 41)
Marquez Valdes-Scantling didn’t have a great stat line — last week’s was better — but for the second week in a row, he showed up and made some plays.
The talent is not the question with MVS, it’s the consistency. Too many times, MVS would catch a deep pass and then fade away for a couple weeks until his next big catch.
This week, he was back catching valuable first downs in addition to a big 41-yard gain in the fourth quarter after the Lions battled back to within 13 with a Matthew Stafford touchdown. That catch set up another Aaron Jones touchdown and two-point conversion, capping off the Packers’ scoring on the day.
MVS also showed off his toughness in this game, getting hit hard twice in the game and still coming back to play.
Everyone, including the head coach and quarterback, were singing the praises for Valdes-Scantling this offseason and now we are seeing why.
MVS worked hard this offseason and he is now starting to see the fruits of his labor. Hopefully the injury to Adams is minor and he misses little to no time at all. But, should the injury keep him out or even hobble him at all, the team can take comfort in knowing Valdes-Scantling is ready to pick up the slack.
